NTSIKI BIYELA FROM STELLEKAYA WINS SA WOMAN WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR
Ntsiki was crowned SA Woman Winemaker of the Year 2009 in Somerset West at the Lord Charles Hotel on Thursday 30th of July.
She beat 64 wine entries from 28 woman winemakers across South Africa in this year’s competition. Ntsiki wowed the judges with her 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon.Besides judging the quality of their wines, the judges also subjected each of the six finalists to a personal interview to gain insight into the winemakers’ long-term objectives, winemaking philosophy and their views on the industry.
According to Marilyn Cooper, head of the Cape Wine Academy and president of the judging panel, Ntsiki sparkled. "Not only did she impress us with her well made Cabernet Sauvignon, but she is confident and passionate about the wine industry, and eager to share her knowledge and passion with others. She’s not only an inspiration for future woman winemakers, but anyone who is considering winemaking as a career." “Woman in the wine industry are being acknowledged increasingly throughout the world and I hope this award plays an important role in motivating all women, not only those wanting to enter the wine industry.
This just shows that women can embark on any career with success and if they have the necessary perseverance, knowledge and skills the sky is the limit. ” Ntsiki's hard work and dedication to making fine wine is evident, perhaps the sky is not even the limit!
